EKG Certitification at Westchester School for Dental Assistants
The Westchester School for Dental Assistants, WSDA, offers an 80-hour Electrocardiogram course that takes place over ten sessions. This course prepares student to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified EKG Technician (CET) Exam. Passing the certification exam and completion of this course, will make the successful student a more competitive applicant for Electrocardiogram Technician and other allied healthcare opportunities.
The coursework will enable the student to:
- Learn all important structures which surround the heart and its anatomical structure
- Understand related anatomy and physiology medical terminology
- Prepare patient to obtain EKG rhythm
- Value other elements of patient care
- Use a standard 12-Lead EKG and color coded lead wire systems.
- Interpret various sinus rhythms including atrial , junctional and ventricular rhythms.
- Understand different cardiovascular disease
Train how to perform electrocardiogram tests, such as EKGs, Holter Monitoring and stress tests.
Our EKG course introduces the basic principles of electrocardiographic devices and their use in testing electrical impulses from the heart. Students learn how to record EKGs, vital signs, cardiac rhythms and stress. Our EKG course is intended for students that want to advance their career, or have interest in starting a career in the medical field as an Electrocardiogram Technician.

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics data for May 2019, job opportunities for cardiovascular technologists and technicians across specialties is expected to grow 22% by 2024, with a 2015 median salary of $54,880, based on skills and experience. This is a faster growth than the average for all occupations.
